A Birthday Wish for My Favorite Sister

-

Happy Birthday to my great sister…..

Happy birthday to my sister but I guess I need to pause
Another year, another cheer but it hardly meets the cause
For while she’s been around some years I’m not sure that she’s known
Just how much she really means to me in ways I haven’t shown
I guess boys just don’t see at times that little girls at heart
Need to feel the love of others even brothers from the start
We grew so fast and went our ways our lives they seemed to roam
But from our childhood memories I will often dream of home

I see now that at times I was a feisty little brat
I knew which buttons made you cry and always liked a spat
And there were times when mom and dad just shook their heads in fear
That their kids would never grow to love and hold each other near

And I know that it was hard for you to always hear my name
You watched me and you cheered me as I conquered all life’s games
I know you must have hurt sometimes when all you saw was shade
Life’s trophies seemed to fall my way, it was just how we were made

But time is true and year by year the tables turn their tides
Life’s medals seem to fade away but family root abides
The silly things that once back then we thought would one day matter
Seem to now get lost in what is here and is merely family chatter

For now we both have grown and had our equal share of life
We’ve seen the joys of family and we’ve seen our times of strife
Father Time has scales of balance that determines what is fair
Pain’s the equalizer and by now we’ve both been there

So here you sit on your big day and none the worse for wear
It’s too bad that we are miles apart, I wish that I was there
But even though the space and years a chasm might create
I feel we’ve grown much closer and on that there’s no debate

So have a happy birthday sis, and do just what you please
You deserve a time to pamper, just relax and smell the breeze
But as you do, you need to know the feelings of your brother
He loves you special sister…….and he would never want another
